Kamaole Beach Parks:
Kam
I, Kam II, and Kam III, on South Kihei Road. These
are Kihei's best beaches for all-around swimming and catching some rays
(sun, not fish).
All have lifeguards, showers, restrooms.
Ulua Beach/Mokapu Beach:
Centrally
located in the Wailea Resort area, these beaches
can be reached by turning right on the public beach access just past the
Renaissance Wailea
Hotel. Both restrooms and showers are available here.
Wailea Beach:
Another
excellent swimming and sunbathing beach, this time between the
Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons Hotel in Wailea. Just look for the public
beach access
parking lot. Equipment rentals available through the hotels.
Polo Beach Park:Look
for this excellent swimming beach at the south end of the Wailea Resort
on Wailea Alanui Drive. Picnic tables, too.
Makena Beach (Big Beach &
Little Beach): Drive through the Makena Resort
and make
your way toward the Maui Prince Hotel. You will notice a 360' red hill
(cinder cone) behind
the Prince. This is Puu Olai, and Makena Beach extends one mile south from
its base. Continue
on and watch for a right turn to public parking. Restrooms are available.
Beware the often large
surf and strong currents.
